Issue Position: Spending and Debt - Balanced Budget

Issue Position

The United States' total debt is approaching $16 trillion, which represents more than $40,000 for every man, woman, and child in the U.S. For the fourth year in a row, the federal government is adding well over $1 trillion to the debt. The excessive spending coming from Washington must be stopped.

In my first months in Congress, I voted to return government agency budgets to 2008 levels, to reform or eliminate government subsidies, shrink the federal workforce, and target waste and inefficiencies at every government agency.

I also support reforming the outdated tax code by consolidating tax brackets, lowering tax rates, and eliminating deductions and loopholes that turn our tax code into a favor factory. I also strongly support the passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution.

I believe America has a bright future, but only if we get our fiscal house in order. Government spending and the federal debt must be brought under control. I will continue to work on long-term solutions to balance the federal budget and restore stability to our economy.
