Slaughter Announces $495,000 Advanced Manufacturing Grant for Rochester Institute of Technology

Press Release

Date: May 6, 2015
Location: Rochester, NY

Today, U.S. Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY) announced a $495,000 grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) to develop technologies to accelerate the growth of the advanced manufacturing industry in the United States. Slaughter led a letter signed by her and four other members from the New York State congressional delegation in support of this program. The grant, awarded by NIST's Advanced Manufacturing Technology Consortia (AMTech) Program, will allow RIT to pursue its project titled Consortium Formation and Technology Roadmap Development for Remanufacturing in the Circular Economy, which will establish an industry-led consortium to research, identify, and solve high-priority technological challenges faced by advanced manufacturers.

"Rochester has an important role in reinvigorating our manufacturing, particularly in advanced manufacturing, like optics and photonics. This grant greatly enhances our chance to expand and rebuild the local economy, and I congratulate RIT," said Congresswoman Slaughter.

Congresswoman Slaughter and four of her colleagues in the New York State congressional delegation sent a letter to NIST last November supporting RIT's AMTech grant request. The letter highlights RIT's clear plan to identify and address the challenges faced by American advanced manufacturers and its support from world-renowned experts and industry leaders.
