King Statement on Deaths of Hostages in U.S. Counterterrorism Operation

In response to the announcement today that two hostages, including an American citizen, were killed by a U.S. counterterrorism operation in January, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, released the following statement:

"I am deeply saddened by today's announcement and my thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of Mr. Weinstein and Mr. Lo Porto," Senator King said. "As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, I have been following this closely and I firmly believe that an exhaustive, independent review is necessary to fully understand the circumstances that led to their deaths and to help prevent such terrible tragedies from happening again."
