Proclamation - Vietnam Veterans Recognition Week and Loyalty Day

Governor's Proclamation

WHEREAS, throughout America's history, courageous men and women
have taken up arms to secure, defend, and maintain the
freedom and democracy we hold so dear; and

WHEREAS, more than three million members of our country's armed
forces served in Southeast Asia in support of military
operations on behalf of South Vietnam; and

WHEREAS, over 58,000 members of America's military paid the ultimate
sacrifice during the armed conflict in Vietnam; and

WHEREAS, this year's observances of Vietnam Veterans Recognition
Week and Loyalty Day provide all of us the opportunity to
reaffirm our allegiance to our country while celebrating the
dedicated service of Vietnam veterans.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mark Sanford, Governor of the Great State of
South Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 1 - 7, 2005, as

throughout the state and encourage all South Carolinians to recognize with
honor and respect the many contributions made by Vietnam veterans to
promote the American way of life.
