U.S. Rep. Dennis A. Ross (R-FL-15), Senior Deputy Majority Whip, today released the following statement after voting to pass H.R. 2029, the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2016. This legislation passed with bipartisan support, by a vote of 255 -- 163.

"Today, I voted to pass legislation that will fund the Department of Veterans Affairs at the highest level in the history of our country. Our brave veterans made honorable sacrifices to preserve this great nation and our American values. I am committed to ensuring our heroes receive the care and benefits they have earned. This bill provides a $3.6 billion increase for the Department of Veterans Affairs from last year and provides funding to clear the VA's unacceptable claims backlog.

"Almost 1.6 million veterans call Florida home. My vote today is a reflection of my gratitude for their patriotism and sacrifice on behalf of our nation.

"In addition, to supporting our veterans, this legislation supports necessary modernization funding for military installations and includes full funding for military family housing. This legislation also supports critical overseas investments necessary for our warfighters deployed in defense of our nation. "
