Vice Chair Crowley Statement on May Jobs Report

Statement

Date: June 5, 2015
Location: Queens, NY

Today, Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement on the Department of Labor's May jobs report, which found that the U.S. economy added 280,000 jobs. With businesses adding 262,000 jobs, May marks the 63rd consecutive month of private sector job growth:

"Today's jobs report is an encouraging sign that our nation's economy continues to move in the right direction. However, it is clear that there is much more that Congress can and should be doing to grow Americans' paychecks and help hardworking families.

"Our economy needs the kind of certainty that will build confidence and encourage investment. That's why House Democrats are committed to a long-term Highway Trust Fund bill that will give states and transit authorities the ability to plan for the future, create jobs, and improve our nation's crumbling transportation infrastructure.

"Congress must also reauthorize the Export-Import Bank, which helps level the playing field for American businesses to sell their goods and services abroad, sustaining over 164,000 American jobs. Unfortunately, House Republicans' willingness to let this vital resource expire is putting American jobs at risk.

"House Democrats will continue to promote policies focused on rebuilding, reinvigorating, and reinvesting in our economy to benefit every American."
