Rangel Applauds Supreme Court Ruling to Uphold ACA

Statement

Congressman Charles B. Rangel, the primary sponsor of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), who represents the 13th Congressional District of New York that includes Upper Manhattan and parts of the Bronx, released the following statement on the United States Supreme decision on the ACA:

"The Supreme Court today has once again upheld the Affordable Care Act. This is not a victory for any political party or a defeat for any individual. Rather, it is a triumph for millions of hard-working Americans, young, old, ill, or well alike.

It is time that Republicans come to terms with the reality: the Affordable Care Act is not just working but is a huge success. They should recognize the highest court in the land has twice upheld this landmark legislation. For the first time in our nation's history, we have the lowest uninsured rate along with the slowest growth in healthcare costs. As the lead sponsor of this bill, I cannot be more proud of the progress and achievement we have seen thus far, even with incessant Republican attempts to repeal it. Now the Republican-led Congress should get back to making and passing laws that benefit the American people.

Access to affordable healthcare is a fundamental right. While this law may not be perfect, it is a giant step forward to expanding healthcare for all -- which is something I will continue to fight for."
