Congresswoman Brown Demands Immediate Senate Vote on Attorney General Nominee Loretta Lynch

Press Release

Date: March 19, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Corrine Brown joined her colleagues in the Congressional Black Caucus to demand that the Senate immediately take up the nomination of Loretta Lynch for United States Attorney General. During the press conference, Congresswoman Brown made the following statement:

"In the words of Senator Durbin, "Loretta Lynch, the first African American woman nominated to be attorney general, is asked to sit in the back of the bus when it comes to the Senate calendar.' I share Senator Durbin's sentiments. Why is it that when Ashton Carter was nominated to be defense secretary, he was confirmed in less than 70 days, while Ms. Lynch, on the other hand, has been waiting over 130 days, even though she is extremely qualified and breezed through Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearings.

It is outright indisputable that Ms. Lynch's long, and might I add, very accomplished career as a prosecutor more than illustrates her commitment to protecting the civil rights of ALL Americans, as well as her passion for securing justice for all. Truly, the nomination of Ms. Lynch, who would become the nation's first African American female Attorney General once the Senate takes up her nomination, would not only be historic, but also demonstrates President Obama's vision to ensure that our country's top attorney lead our nation's justice system in the right direction."
