Rangel Supports Marriage Equality

Statement

Date: April 28, 2015
Location: New York, NY

Congressman Charles B. Rangel, who represents the 13th Congressional District of New York that includes Upper Manhattan and parts of the Bronx, released the following statement as oral arguments before the Supreme Court regarding the issue of Marriage Equality conclude:

"As the highest court in our land hears arguments on the legality of Marriage Equality it is important to keep in mind what is really at stake; the American promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. When an individual is denied equal protection and equal justice under the law there must be swift rectification. This was true for the Civil Rights movement and is still true for the march toward Marriage Equality.

On this day I stand with my friends on both sides of the aisle urging the Supreme Court to affirm that everyone has the right to love. All love is equal, and the union of the LGBT community should be treated equally. We must continue on our path towards progress and let nothing stand in the way of ensuring equality for all."
