U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, released a statement following a key procedural vote on Trade Promotion Authority legislation.

"Trade Promotion Authority is significant legislation to provide lasting authority that will have far reaching impact across our economy. It is simply unacceptable to rush it through without appropriate assurances that we will take steps to help workers who have had their jobs shipped overseas and put an end to currency cheating from countries such as China. This debate comes down to jobs and wages. For Pennsylvania, the evidence suggests that several trade agreements have had a downward pressure on wages. Eight of eleven countries in the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations have minimum wages lower than the U.S. and seven of those countries have minimum wages below $3. Trade Promotion Authority legislation will green light a deal that will not advance wage growth in Pennsylvania or our manufacturing sector."
