McMorris Rodgers: Putting Decisions Back Into the Hands of America's Fishing Communities

Press Release

Date: June 1, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement today after the House passed H.R. 1335, the Strengthening Fishing Communities and Increasing Flexibility in Fisheries Management Act, which reauthorizes and updates the Magnuson-Stevens Act. This bill ensures the conservation and growth of U.S. fishery resources and supports the 381,000 U.S. jobs that rely on the seafood industry.

"The potential of the U.S. fishing industry ranges from economic opportunity to job creation -- yet too often, Washington, D.C. gets in the way. I know it's America's fishermen that understand it best, so today I voted to put the decision-making back into their hands. This common-sense solution reforms arbitrary and outdated mandates so that job creation and economic growth can flourish. I applaud the work of Rep. Don Young (R-AK) for his common-sense solution that will allow an integral U.S. industry to grow from the ground up."
