McKinley Statement on West Virginia Blue Ribbon Commission on Highways

Statement

Date: May 22, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Transportation

Congressman David B. McKinley, P.E., (WV-1) released the following statement with regard to the West Virginia Blue Ribbon Commission on Highways Final Report released this week:

"The condition of our roads in West Virginia has never been worse. We deserve better. How can we expect to compete with other states for economic development when our roads are in such poor condition?

"This week's Blue Ribbon Commission report raises a number of important issues and questions. And some of them are likely to be controversial.

"As the Report makes clear, the federal government only funds a third of West Virginia's highway construction. So, while a long-term highway bill is my priority in Congress, it cannot solve West Virginia's infrastructure problems on its own.

"I look forward to reviewing the Report with state officials, such as Secretary Paul Mattox, and determining how Washington and Charleston can work together to improve our roads."
