Congresswoman Lee Announces Millions in Federal Grants to the East Bay

Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee announced more than $7.4 million in federal grants to the East Bay.

More than $4 million will support nutrition programs that fight food insecurity in the East Bay.

"I would like to congratulate the Berkeley Ecology Center and Mandela MarketPlace on their National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) grants. This federal grant helps ensure a vital avenue for access to healthy food in our community," said Congresswoman Lee. "Berkeley Ecology Center and Mandela MarketPlace do amazing work contributing to the health of our community by addressing food insecurity; providing local, healthy food to the most vulnerable in our community and promoting social equity."

An additional $3.7 million in grants from the National Science Foundation will support advanced scientific research at the University of California, Berkeley.

"I am very proud of UC Berkeley for receiving this research funding from the National Science Foundation," said Congresswoman Barbara Lee. "UC Berkeley has a long history of cutting-edge scientific research that expands our understanding, improves our health and addresses critical global challenges.
