DelBene Secures Long Overdue Pay for Oso Workers

Press Release

Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today said it is long overdue for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to announce that Washington First District workers will receive pay for the overtime hours they worked supporting recovery efforts after the devastating landslide last March.

"I was deeply concerned to hear that several of my constituents employed by FEMA were still waiting to receive overtime pay for their work supporting recovery efforts after the devastating landslide near Oso," DelBene said. "I'm glad these hard-working individuals will finally be compensated for their admirable work responding to this tragedy. But it is disappointing that it took this long for the issue to be resolved -- more than a year after their work on the slide concluded, and nearly nine months after my office initially contacted FEMA about this backlog."

Constituents reached out to DelBene's office last September, saying their overtime still hadn't been paid and that the process usually takes only six to eight weeks. After months of advocacy on behalf of these constituents, FEMA notified DelBene's office on Tuesday that their overtime pay had been approved.
