DelBene Supports Pregnant Workers Fairness Act

Press Release

Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today helped introduce the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act to protect pregnant women from job discrimination.

"No one should have to choose between their job and their pregnancy," DelBene said. "It is clear we need to strengthen existing protections for pregnant workers, which is why I'm honored to join so many of my colleagues in introducing the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. This important legislation will help working women across the country by ensuring employers offer reasonable accommodations to workers who are pregnant."

Congressman Jarrold Nadler (NY-10) is leading the House bill, which has more than 100 original cosponsors. The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act would require employers to accommodate employees who have limitations stemming from pregnancy or childbirth, unless the accommodation would impose an undue hardship on the employer. The bill would also prohibit employers from requiring a pregnant worker to accept unwanted changes to her work.

DelBene has also cosponsored the Healthy Families Act to help middle-class families by ensuring workers receive paid sick leave to care for themselves or their families.
