Location: Washington, DC

At a roundtable discussion today, U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, emphasized progress has been made to close information sharing gaps in the two years following the Boston Marathon Bombings. He noted America is safer today from that progress.

"As we commemorate the second anniversary of that tragic day in Boston, we owe it to the victims to do everything we can to ensure something like that never happens again," Chairman McCaul said. "We can't be 100 percent safe, but that is the goal for which we strive. Between the report of this Committee, the report of BENS, and the recommendations put forward, I want to commend FBI Director Comey and Secretary Johnson for implementing these recommendations. We are safer as a result of these lessons learned."

The roundtable was hosted by Business Executives for National Security's (BENS) and included Rep. Bill Keating, D-Mass., Committee on Homeland Security; Gen. Norton A. Schwartz USAF (Ret), President & CEO, BENS (Moderator); and Mike Leiter, Former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC).

Yesterday, Chairman McCaul and Rep. Keating released a follow-up report entitled, "Preventing Another Boston Marathon Bombing: Review the Lessons Learned from the 2013 Terror Attack," to review the implementation of the Committee's recommendations from its 2014 Boston Marathon Bombings investigative report.
