Dick Saslaw has led the fight for necessary transportation funding for our region. He serves on the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Transportation, and continues to work to ensure that Northern Virginia receives the funding required to meet its growing transportation needs. He has been a long time advocate for making critical investments in infrastructure aimed at reducing gridlock. He strongly believes that Virginia must expand the use of mass transit, increase efficiency, and keep up with the maintenance of existing projects. Northern Virginians know how congested our roadways are, and that's why Senator Saslaw has continued to support vital projects such as Rail to Dulles and HOT Lanes on I-495, I-395, and I-95. He has voted to speed up much needed transportation projects in Northern Virginia, in order to get more people out of their cars and onto mass transit.

Saslaw knows that Virginia's transportation problems cannot be fixed overnight and has advocated for commonsense measures to generate new revenue. In the Senate, he is one of the leading advocates for new sources of sustainable transportation funding. He has introduced multiple pieces of legislation to raise the level of funding to meet Virginia's transportation needs. Senator Saslaw believes a strong transportation network is essential to maintaining a strong economy and ultimately improving the quality of life for Virginia families.

In 2013, Dick Saslaw led the effort to pass the historic bipartisan transportation bill. He supported extra funding for the VRE in addition to smart growth development and more walkable communities. Senator Saslaw will continue working to prioritize the most important transportation projects that show the greatest potential for alleviating traffic on our busiest roadways.
