Date: May 14, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Energy

The Subcommittee on Energy and Power has scheduled a hearing for Thursday, May 21, at 10:00 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, "Quadrennial Energy Review and related Discussion Drafts." Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz will be the sole witness.

Last month, the administration released the first installment of its Quadrennial Energy Review (QER) focusing on energy transmission, storage, and distribution infrastructure. The QER's findings underscored the need to modernize the nation's aging energy infrastructure and highlighted policy reforms needed to achieve America's energy potential. House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Energy and Power Subcommittee Chairman Ed Whitfield (R-KY) expressed a commitment to working with the administration on areas of common ground to accomplish some of the goals outlined in the QER.

Next week, Secretary Moniz will review the QER's findings and give testimony on relevant discussion drafts released by the committee as part of its comprehensive Architecture of Abundance energy legislation.

Upton and Whitfield said, "We look forward to welcoming back Secretary Moniz and hearing his perspective on the QER's findings and the committee's legislation. Many of the recommendations included in the administration's report are in step with the committee's efforts. We said we want to work together, and we are seeking meaningful feedback on our proposals as we continue to advance the Architecture of Abundance and bring our energy policy into the 21st Century."

To date, the subcommittee has released the following discussion drafts to be included in the committee's energy bill: Title II: 21st Century Workforce, Strategic Petroleum Reserve Mission Readiness Plan, Title IV Energy Efficiency and Accountability, FERC Process Coordination, Hydropower Regulatory Modernization, and Energy Reliability and Security. Additional legislative drafts may be released prior to the hearing.
