Returning Some National Parks to State Control:

The most recent federal government shutdown demonstrated in no uncertain terms both the incompetence and arrogance of leaders in Washington. National parks and open-air monuments were barricaded with fencing and federal security guards, sometimes at greater expense than the normal cost of keeping open and maintaining these parks.

In addition to demonstrating vindictiveness toward the American people, the federal government also blatantly disregarded the livelihoods of the millions of Americans across the fruited plain who depend upon those parks remaining open. As your Representative, I will continue to champion the idea that some of the national parks should again be returned to state control as I suggested this year with my HB 16 establishing a Commission for the re-conveyance of the Shenandoah National Park back to Virginia, since most states do not shut down their governments.
