During his ten years serving in the Virginia House of Delegates, Bill Janis made defense of the Second Amendment the centerpiece of his legislative agenda. A Life Member of the National Rifle Association, a military veteran, and a concealed carry permit holder, Bill believes that the Second Amendment right of law-abiding Virginians to keep and bear arms, is an essential safeguard of all our inalienable rights.

Beginning with HB1448 in 2003 and HB402 in 2004, Bill Janis led efforts to break the log-jam of passive resistance to issuance of concealed carry permits.

In 2004, Bill patroned HB404, which exempted CCP holders from one-gun/month in Virginia and was the first rollback of a one-gun/month statute in the country.

In 2005 Bill patroned HB1978, to cut the red tape on issuance of required law enforcement certification for transfer of machine guns and HB2282 that afforded greater protections for sport shooting ranges from local ordinances designed to shut them down.

In 2006, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Bill introduced HB1265 that prohibits the Governor from using post-disaster emergency powers to confiscate firearms from law-abiding Virginians.

In 2007, Bill took the lead to confirm the "castle doctrine" in the Code of Virginia with HB1626 and attempted, once again, to simplify the transfer of firearms covered by the National Firearms Act with HB2588.

In 2008 Bill once again took up the fight for "castle doctrine" with HB710.

Throughout his service in the House, Bill has fought to preserve our Second Amendment rights, and to promote regulations and policies that make it less expensive, complicated and difficult for law abiding Virginians to possess, transfer and carry arms.

In his 2015 address to the General Assembly, Governor McAuliffe made clear that he intends to make the centerpiece of his next year in office a direct assault on our Second Amendment rights, including closing the "so-called gun show loophole," and reinstating "one-gun/month in Virginia." The next Senator in the 12th District must be ready, willing and able to stand up and say "no" to the Governor and his "anti-gun" allies in the General Assembly. Bill Janis has a long and proven track record of saying "no" to assaults on our Second Amendment rights in Virginia.
