Congressman Dan Kildee Applauds Over $4 Million in Federal Grants in Fifth District to Combat Homelessness

Statement

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) today applauded the awarding of over $4 million in federal grants to combat homelessness in communities across the Fifth District. Earlier today, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro announced over $64 million in federal grants in support of hundreds of homeless housing and service programs in Michigan.

"No one in Michigan should have to live on the streets without a roof over their head, especially in the dead of winter," Congressman Kildee said. "Working with local partners and community stakeholders, these federal grants will help to find permanent housing solutions for homeless veterans and other Michiganders currently without a home. These grants are critical investments in housing and other services in cities like Flint, Saginaw and Bay City, and I applaud Secretary Castro for his continued focus on ending homelessness."

The Continuum of Care grants awarded today seek to end homelessness by providing critically needed housing and support services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness across the country. The grant programs offer a variety of housing and other services, including transitional and permanent supportive housing, rapid re-housing, street outreach and client assessment.
