Location: Washington, DC

Today on Capitol Hill,Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5)met with representatives from The Arc of Maryland, The Arc of Southern Maryland and People on the Go of Maryland, organizations that advocate for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities living and working in Maryland. The groups were on Capitol Hill for the The Arc's National Policy Day on the Hill.

"I was pleased to meet with these advocates today who have played a key role in developing a strong network of support services for those with disabilities across Maryland," said Congressman Steny Hoyer. "I am very proud of the work they are doing to assist people in the disability community who continue to struggle for fair and equal treatment. This year, we will mark the 25th anniversary of the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), legislation that I was proud to help pass into law. The ADA has opened doors of opportunity to millions and it has made our country a world leader on the inclusion of people with disabilities. I look forward to continuing to work with these groups to ensure that all Marylanders and Americans with disabilities have independence and freedom and that they enjoy the same rights the rest of us have."

The Arc of Southern Maryland is located in the Fifth Congressional District. It began providing services in Southern Maryland in 1975 and today works with families and individuals in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's counties. It is also a participating agency of the United Way in all three counties.
