Reid Statement On Nevada's March Employment Report

Statement

Date: April 15, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today on Nevada's March employment report. According to the Nevada State Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, the Nevada unemployment rate remained at 7.1% in March, unchanged from February but down from 8.2% in March 2014.

"Over the past year Nevada's economy has seen significant improvements, which are evidenced not only by today's unemployment rate, but by Nevada's job growth in the construction and the leisure and hospitality sectors. Still, we cannot become complacent. We need legislation that protects the middle class and encourages further job creation so that Nevada's economic future can thrive.

"I have worked tirelessly in the Senate to secure necessary grants, craft job creating legislation and push for commonsense policies that would put Nevada's economy first as we continue our recovery. Recently I collaborated with my Republican colleagues to introduce legislation that will expand Interstate 11 in Nevada to Reno. This expansion will increase commerce, boost tourism and make a lasting impact on our economy. I understand that Nevada is at a turning point. We have businesses across many diverse industries coming to Nevada to plant their roots. I am committed to doing all I can to cement Nevada's place as an economic power in America and I remain determined to continue reaching across the aisle in Congress in order to pass legislation that will ensure that every Nevadan can achieve economic stability."
