Boehner on Senate Passage of House Bill to Strengthen Medicare

Press Release

Date: April 14, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement after Senate passage of H.R. 2, a bipartisan bill to strengthen Medicare and fix its payment formula for doctors:

"This reform bill is a big deal. For the first time in nearly two decades -- and without raising taxes -- Congress has come together in a bipartisan way to pass meaningful entitlement reform. And while much more must be done to rein in unsustainable entitlement spending, this agreement represents an important step in the right direction. By permanently replacing Medicare's notoriously unworkable "doc fix,' this bill will ensure seniors have a more stable and reliable system for seeing their doctor and help Americans who are trying to care for elderly parents. And, importantly, it will save taxpayers hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars in the decades to come. Strengthening Medicare means a better future for our kids and grandkids, and I urge the president to sign this bill into law."
