Isakson Decries Democrats' Obstruction of Bill to Help Victims of Human Trafficking

Statement

Date: March 17, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., released the following statement after Senate Democrats again today refused to end their filibuster against bipartisan human-rights legislation -- the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act:

"It is wrong for Senate Democrats to continue to block debate on this critical human-rights bill that would provide help for the oppressed victims of modern slavery.

"I appeal to the members of the Senate to find common ground and let this debate come to the floor, so that when you lay your head on the pillow tonight, instead of thinking about a child that is being abused, you think about an abuse that we are working to prevent because the U.S. Senate took action on ending this terrible affliction.

"It is time to put aside any differences we may have on this legislation so that it can move forward and we can return the debate to the prevention and ending of human trafficking and the abuse of children."

Isakson joined colleagues on the floor of the Senate last week to urge Democrats to end their filibuster of the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015.
