Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement in celebration of the groundbreaking of the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System's new Fisher House in Las Vegas. Over the years, Senator Reid and his office met repeatedly with Fisher House representatives, including Fisher House Foundation Chairman and CEO, Ken Fisher. During these meetings Senator Reid stressed the importance of building a Fisher House in southern Nevada due to the area's rapidly growing veteran population. Las Vegas' Fisher House will serve Nevada's veterans and their families so they can live affordably and comfortably as they receive the health care they need.

"We are forever indebted to our service men and women for the sacrifices they have made while protecting our country. Today's groundbreaking signifies a new step in providing Nevada's soldiers the care they need and deserve," said Reid. "Southern Nevada's Fisher House will provide our veterans' families a comfortable place to stay at no cost while their loved ones receive the healthcare and treatment they need. This celebration has been a long time coming. Over the years I worked with Ken Fisher, the Fisher House Foundation and the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System to ensure this project moved forward. Nevada has one of the fastest growing veterans communities in the nation and it is critical that we ensure our state has all the resources we need to care for our warriors. I thank the Fisher House Foundation and the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System for their work in this project and I look forward to continue working alongside them to provide high quality care for Nevada's veteran community."
