Reid Statement On March Employment Report

Location: Las Vegas, NV

Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today on the March employment report. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the economy added 126,000 jobs in March:

"For the 61st straight month the private sector has added jobs. But today's numbers also show that Republicans in Congress must finally start working to strengthen middle class families and create jobs for hardworking Americans.

"Sadly, this Republican Congress has done nothing for American workers and their families. Since taking their majority, Republicans have spent much of their time passing legislation to benefit special interests like Big Oil companies. And just before Congress left for recess, Republicans approved a budget that attacks Medicare and other middle class priorities, while protecting tax loopholes for billionaires and tax breaks for corporations shipping jobs overseas.

"The Republican budget would take away health care for 16.4 million Americans by repealing Obamacare. It cuts billions in assistance for middle class families trying to put their kids through college. And it slashes jobs training and employment services for millions of American workers. All to fund handouts to the super-rich and special interests. Only Tea Party radicals could believe that this is how to create a thriving economy.

"Senate Democrats know that we can and must do better. Democrats will continue to work with Republicans in areas where there should be bipartisan agreement -- growing our economy and creating jobs. And we will continue to fight when Republicans try to take care of big corporations at the expense of middle class families. Congress must work for an economic future that puts middle class families in Nevada and American workers first."
