Culberson Statement on Passage of House Budget

Congressman John Culberson (TX-07) released the following statement on this week's House passage of the Balanced Budget for a Stronger America Act (H.Con.Res. 27):

"I supported the House budget because it is designed to cut $5.5 trillion in spending and balance the federal budget in less than 10 years, while giving Congress the tools we need to totally repeal Obamacare and prevent the looming bankruptcy of Medicare and Social Security.

"The first legislation I co-authored in this new Congress was a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and this budget calls on Congress to send that amendment to the States for ratification.

"A balanced budget is increasingly urgent. Last year, roughly 70 percent of government spending went to pay for some sort of benefit to someone. Obamacare is expected to increase entitlement spending by 44 percent over the next decade. The national debt now exceeds the size of the U.S. economy.

"The budget we passed today stops the trend of out of control federal spending and deficits while funding important priorities like national security and law enforcement.

"My highest priority continues to be stopping President Obama's destructive agenda in the short-term, and balancing the budget in the long-term."
