Rep. Bonamici to Hold Civil Rights Roundtable

Press Release

Date: March 27, 2015
Location: Beaverton, OR

On Monday, March 30 at 5:00 p.m., Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) will host a roundtable to discuss the future of the civil rights movement with local leaders and activists at Portland State University.

Following her trip to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery civil rights march, Congresswoman Bonamici will convene a roundtable of panelists to reflect on the milestone.

Panelists include: Mary Liuzzo Lilleboe, daughter of slain civil rights activist Viola Liuzzo, Multnomah County Circuit Judge Adrienne Nelson, and Urban League of Portland President Michael Alexander.

"On the 50th anniversary of Selma, when men and women took a stand against oppression and injustice, it is appropriate to reflect on the legacy of that movement and acknowledge that we can do more to establish equality in our nation," Congresswoman Bonamici said. "Current instances of social and racial tension continue to divide communities. This roundtable will provide an opportunity to discuss the significance of Selma and Bloody Sunday and to talk about how we move forward to create a society aligned with our values."

Members of the media are invited to attend. Please RSVP to Alex Gilliland: Alexandra.Gilliland@mail.house.gov, 202-754-1649.
