Statement

Dear Neighbors,

This week, I announced my support of the Large Capacity Feeding Device Act. This legislation would ban the importation, sale, manufacture, transfer or possession of magazines that hold more than ten rounds of ammunition. I believe we need to limit access to weapons that can kill a large number of people in just a few seconds. I know my neighbors overwhelmingly support a ban on high-capacity magazines that have the potential to prevent large scale, senseless tragedies involving firearms.

Recently, I sat down with former Congressman and Army Veteran Patrick Murphy, on his television program "Taking the Hill". We talked about steps we can take to make sure our Veterans get the care and support they deserve.

On Tuesday, I met with the American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association to discuss reducing barriers to appropriate patient care through insurance fairness. We also talked about alternative ways to reduce fraud and abuse in the Medicare program without reducing the quality of care for beneficiaries.

Also this week, I signed on to the Paycheck Fairness Act as an Original Cosponsor. Women are nearly half of the workforce, but still earn only on average about 78 percent of what their male counterparts earn. Pay inequity not only affects women -- it affects children and families and our economy as a whole. It is my hope we will make progress on this important issue with this legislation.

On Friday, I spoke with students at Jefferson Middle School in Villa Park. In honor of Women's History Month, I shared stories about women in the military and the great contributions we have made to our nation over the past 200+ years. It was great to meet with them and hear their questions about my job in Congress and women in the military.

I hope you had a good week.

Sincerely,
