Iowa Congressman David Young says President Obama has no business telling Congress not to invite Israeli's prime minister to Washington.

House Speaker John Boehner recently drew the ire of the Obama Administration by inviting Benjamin Netanyahu to speak before a joint session of Congress in March. The 3rd District Republican recently told KMA News he doesn't believe Boehner circumvented the White House by inviting Netanyahu, who has criticized the president for opposing sanctions against Iran.

"We don't need the permission of the president to invite who we want into the people's house," said Young. "Just like in your house, you have a right to invite whoever you want to your home--and your neighbor shouldn't get upset about it. We don't get upset, or ask for permission when the president invites people to the White House. We have a separation of powers."

Young says Israel is still the United States' ally.

"Israel, Bibi Netanyahu--they're our ally," he said. "They're our friend, and we need to hear from them, because the perspective we're getting from the White House--it's sometimes shielded, and we're not getting the full truth. And, we need to get the perspective of our allies, as well. So, I'm looking forward to Bibi coming in, and especially talking about the threats of Iran."
President Obama has threatened to veto any sanctions approved by Congress against Iran, saying that it would threaten nuclear disarmament talks with the country, and risk a military confrontation. Young says Congress needs another perspective on the issue, other than the president's take.

"Now, the president is kind of browbeating Congress," said the congressman, "and saying, 'Congress, don't act on anything with Iran and sanctions.' Well, you know, Congress has a role regarding foreign relations. The president is the commander in chief, but Congress has a role, as well. I know Bibi Netanyahu will comment on this."

Young adds that as a Christian, it's important to support Netanyahu and Israel.
