Rep. Salmon Sends Letter Urging President Obama to Visit the U.S.-Mexico Border While in Phoenix

Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Matt Salmon (AZ-05) today sent a letter to President Barack Obama urging him to visit the U.S.-Mexico border during his scheduled visit to Phoenix on Thursday to understand the immigration crisis his policies are causing. Rep. Salmon released the following statement.

"President Obama has repeatedly said he is looking for real solutions and not "photo ops.' Yet, as he purports to "fix' our immigration system with illegal and unconstitutional actions, he has steadfastly refused to visit the border between the United States and Mexico and see firsthand the people his policies affect.

"As a Representative from a border state, I see firsthand what the President shies away from as he quickly visits Arizona's capitol. I'm calling on him once more to visit the border and speak with the children and families who have journeyed hundreds of miles and been the victims of cartel thugs in search of his promise of legal status in America.

"I believe a visit is key to understanding not only their plight, but also the plight of our border patrol and border state law enforcement officials who are challenged every day to enforce our laws and secure our border with no assistance from the Executive Branch of the United States."
