Pelosi Statement on Republican Vote to Block Clean DHS Funding Bill

Statement

Date: Feb. 11, 2015
Location: San Francisco, CA

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released the following statement on the introduction of a clean funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security offered by Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA), who has been recommended to be Ranking Democrat on the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, and Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY), Ranking Democrat on the Appropriations Committee.

"With only six legislative days left before the Department of Homeland Security shuts down, House Republicans refuse to admit the dangerous collapse of their anti-immigrant grandstanding. Republicans' radical immigrant riders are dead in the Senate. Yet today, House Republicans unanimously voted to block consideration of a clean DHS funding bill to avert this manufactured crisis and restore certainty to the security of American families.

"While Republicans continue to play an extremely irresponsible game with our homeland security, Democrats are working to restore common sense to D.C. As Republicans fail to act, Democrats are introducing a clean bill that allows us to act immediately to keep the American people safe.

"House Republicans shouldn't hold our homeland security hostage to their anti-immigrant politics. Republicans should face the facts, and join with Democrats to pass this clean DHS funding bill."
