Upton, DeGette Mark #RareDiseaseDay2015

Statement

Date: Feb. 27, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) issued the following statement marking International Rare Disease Day. Last year, Upton and DeGette began the 21st Century Cures initiative on Capitol Hill with the goal of accelerating the discovery, development, and delivery of new cures and treatments. Upon release of a discussion document in January, the Energy and Commerce Committee unveiled the #Cures2015 campaign with the intent of completing this initiative's legislative phase this year.

"Throughout the course of our yearlong listening session for 21st Century Cures, we have heard from and met so many patients who remain at the center of this initiative. The strength and optimism of these patients and their loved ones drives this effort. Today we join all those calling attention to rare diseases as we continue our bipartisan effort to deliver more hope to these patients who know that together, we can and will find cures and treatments for the thousands of diseases without one," said Upton and DeGette.
