McKinley Stands Up to Obama on Immigration

Congressman David B. McKinley, P.E. (WV-1) voted today to rein in President Obama's unconstitutional power grabs on immigration. In a series of amendments to the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) funding, McKinley and House Republicans voted to restore and respect the constitutional separation of powers.

"The United States is a nation of laws, and one man should not be able to change those laws because he is not getting his way. All elected officials take the same oath to defend the Constitution, and today, the House fulfilled its duty," said McKinley.

McKinley added,"These types of tactics may work in Chicago politics, but here in Congress, we will not be bullied."

Today's legislation would stop President Obama's selective enforcement of the nation's immigration laws while fully-funding border security and other priorities, such as counter-terrorism and cybersecurity. In an amendment to the bill, the House voted to stop the executive action that gives illegal aliens work permits and federal benefits.

"Our border security and immigration policies need debated and reformed, but it is the role of Congress to write laws, not the executive branch. Congress should act to fix our broken system, but that can only be done when the President shows he will enforce the law and not act on his own," McKinley said.

Since President Obama's November declaration that he would not enforce the law for millions of illegal immigrants, Congressman McKinley has received thousands of phone calls, emails, and letters from constituents urging him to stand for the rule of law. Today's vote is another effort to enforce our laws and secure our border.
