Newsletter: 5 Things for Our Veterans - You Too

Statement

This week, the new American Congress re-emphasized our commitment to the people and issues that so many of you asked us to continue working on: The Hiring Our Heroes Act makes it easier for businesses to hire our Veterans. The Save American Workers Act reforms one of the horrible flaws in Obamacare that has forced employers to cut full-time employees to part-time. And, despite a veto threat from the President, we voted once again to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline. Additionally, I re-affirmed my commitment to the lives of the unborn.

More on all of those priorities in the column on the right, but several Veterans have reached out to our office with issues using their "Veterans Choice Card". We understand this has caused some headaches and are researching some legislative fixes to ease this process. In the mean time, we consulted with Veterans Affairs to come-up with a few pointers that may help clear-up some of the issues and confusion. Of course, please don't hesitate to continue to call on us:

5 Things to Know about the Veterans Choice Program

The Veterans Choice Card can only be utilized by Veterans who live further than 40 miles as the crow flies fromany VA Health Care Facility. If you are unsure, please call our Hudson office; we can help verify eligibility.

You can utilize the Veterans Choice Card if you face a geographic challenge. In other words, if a permanent landmark (such as a lake or mountain) prevents one from easily accessing the nearest clinic, the Choice Card may be used at a more geographically convenient location.

Veterans may be eligible to use the Veterans Choice Card if they have been told by their local VA medical facility that they will need to wait more than 30 days from their preferred date or the date medically determined by their physician for the care they are seeking.

Non-VA care is only covered by the Department of Veterans Affairs for medical needs which have been approved by your VA physician.

Every Veteran will receive a Choice Card in the mail. Even if you are not currently qualified to use your Veterans Choice Card, hold onto it as you may become qualified in the future.

Again, if you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to call our Hudson office at 715-808-8160, we will be very glad to assist you. Until next week…
