Rep. Paul Cook Serving on Two House Natural Resources Subcommittees

Rep. Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley) has been assigned to two House Natural Resources Subcommittees. Cook will serve on the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources and the Subcommittee on Indian, Insular and Alaska Native Affairs.

Cook will oversee American energy production and mining on federal lands as a member of the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources. He will work to ensure the environmentally responsible development of the nation's vast energy and mineral resources to expand domestic energy supplies, create jobs, reduce the country's dependence on foreign sources of energy and minerals.

As a member of the Subcommittee on Indian, Insular and Alaska Native Affairs Cook will oversee all matters regarding Native Americans, including the approximately 566 federally recognized tribes and Alaska Native Corporations, with nearly 1.9 million enrolled members. He will also work to ensure freedom and economic development opportunities for Indian tribes in California's 8th district, and across the country.

Cook said, "Representing a district where more than 80 percent of the land is owned by the government, with rich mineral resources, I'm pleased with my subcommittee assignments. The work done in these subcommittees will affect people who live and work in the communities I serve. I look forward to working with House Natural Resources Chairman Rob Bishop and my colleagues on these important subcommittees."

A member of the House Natural Resources, Armed Services, and Foreign Affairs Committees, Cook served as an infantry officer and retired after 26 years as a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps. During his time in combat, he was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.
