Rooney: Funding Announcement Critical to Fighting Citrus Disease

Press Release

Date: Feb. 9, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Tom Rooney (FL-17), a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, said that today's USDA announcement of $30 million in new funding authorized by the 2014 Farm Bill is the next critical step in fighting citrus greening disease, also known as Huanglongbing (HLB).

"Citrus greening disease poses an existential threat to Florida's citrus industry, and the 76,000 jobs it supports," Rooney said. "This new funding will support projects to help Florida's growers detect diseases early and manage infected groves, while investing in long-term research right here in Florida to eradicate greening."
