U.S. Rep. Dennis A. Ross (R-FL-15), Senior Deputy Majority Whip, today released the following statement after the Polk County Veterans Council announced the establishment of the "Flight of Honor Polk Florida."

"I am excited the Polk County Veterans Council has created an Honor Flight program for our local veterans. We owe these courageous men and women who served and preserved our country's freedom a debt that can never truly be repaid. They have more than earned a trip to visit their respective memorials in Washington, D.C.

"Last October, I was honored to greet an Honor Flight as it returned to Lakeland from Washington D.C. For many veterans, these trips are a once in a lifetime experience to not only see their memorial, but to also reminisce about old friends and pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. My father was a World War II Navy veteran who had the privilege of participating in one of these flights, and I will never forget how special that trip was to him.

"I encourage all veterans from Polk and Hillsborough County to learn more about this new program, and I look forward to greeting each veteran who attends."
