Rep. Heck Named Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee Chair

Press Release

Date: Dec. 11, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Joe Heck (NV-03) today released the following statement on his appointment as House Armed Services Military Personnel (MILPERS) Subcommittee Chairman by House Armed Services Committee Chairman-elect Mac Thornberry (R-TX).

"For more than 23 years, I have dedicated my career to protecting the morale and welfare of our troops and it has been my life's honor to care for our men and women in uniform as a physician in the U.S. Army Reserve. Chairing the MILPERS subcommittee will allow me to continue that service, just in another capacity. We face difficult challenges in the year ahead on military personnel issues, but I look forward to working with all of my colleagues to ensure we continue to provide for our men and women in uniform and their families.

"I thank Chairman-elect Thornberry for the confidence he has shown in me by this appointment. The full Committee will be in extremely capable hands under his leadership, and I am anxious to work with him and all of the subcommittee chairs to do the important work we have ahead of us."

House Armed Services Committee Chairman-elect Mac Thornberry said the following regarding Rep. Heck's appointment: "As an active member of the US Army Reserve and someone whose military service has been devoted to military personnel, Congressman Heck has the background and experience to be an effective leader on the MILPERS subcommittee. I look forward to working together with him to meet the challenge of providing for the common defense and ensuring we support our men and women in uniform and their families while meeting the high expectations of the US taxpayer."

The Military Personnel Subcommittee is responsible for military personnel policy, reserve component integration and employment issues, military health care, military education, and POW/MIA issues.
