DeLauro Statement On King V. Burwell Oral Arguments

Statement

Date: March 4, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement on the King v. Burwell oral arguments occurring before the Supreme Court today. DeLauro, a strong supporter of the Affordable Care Act, is the senior Democrat on the subcommittee responsible for funding the Department of Health and Human Services.

"The Affordable Care Act is working, yet those who would deny quality, affordable health care to millions of Americans cannot accept that fact. The tax credits the law's opponents are going after in this case have helped millions of working Americans obtain affordable health insurance.

"I was there when the Affordable Care Act was being conceived, debated and written. I say with no uncertainty: the bill's authors meant for tax credits to be available to all eligible Americans, regardless of whether their state has its own marketplace or participates in the federal marketplace.

"I am confident that the Supreme Court will issue the only ruling consistent with the text, context and history of the law: to keep federal tax credits available for every eligible individual in the nation."
