Perlmutter Joins House Science, Space and Technology Committee in the 114th Congress

U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) will join the House Science, Space and Technology Committee in the 114th Congress. This second committee assignment will be in addition to the House Financial Services Committee which Rep. Perlmutter has served on since being elected to Congress in 2006. Serving on the Science, Space and Technology Committee will better enable Rep. Perlmutter to strongly advocate for important priorities such as aerospace jobs, the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) and research universities across Colorado.
"Colorado is leading the nation's efforts in energy research, developing cutting edge technologies, and the space program," said Rep. Perlmutter. "Having a member from the Colorado delegation on the committee will benefit the state's aerospace economy and help advance important projects such as driving future innovation and job creation, the Orion Spacecraft and the Space Launch System, the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS 1 and 2) next generation weather satellites, and other climate-related instruments."
The committee has jurisdiction over National Laboratories including the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) located in the 7th Congressional District in Golden. With over 1,600 employees, NREL is at the forefront of transforming the way the world uses energy and is the principal research lab for the Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE).
"National laboratories such as NREL are important for the future of research, innovation, and technology," continued Perlmutter. "I also want to work to promote STEM education so we can educate and train future generations and ensure our nation is responsibly using its energy resources. These are all important issues for my district, the state of Colorado and the nation."
Colorado has several leading research universities including the University of Colorado, Colorado State University and the Colorado School of Mines. With jurisdiction over the National Science Foundation (NSF) and responsibility for promoting STEM education, Congressman Perlmutter will be at the forefront of ensuring Colorado is educating our next generation scientists and engineers.
Colorado has not had representation from either party on the House Science, Space and Technology Committee since the 110th Congress.
