Farenthold Stands Strong; Votes No on Cromnibus

Press Release

Date: Dec. 12, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today, December 12, 2014, Congressman Blake Farenthold (TX-27) released the following statement regarding his no vote on H.R. 83, the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015:

"Last night, the House voted to fund the government through September 2015. This massive spending bill contained funding for the President's unconstitutional amnesty plan. From the day I was sworn into Congress, I took an oath to uphold the Constitution. For this reason, among many others, I could not support this bill.

'This funding bill clearly bucks the American people who voted for a stronger more Conservative Congress this past November. The "Cromnibus" which provided $1.1 trillion dollars to fund the government through September 2015 also limits the new incoming Congress' power to control their own budget and future. While this bill reduced funding for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), it did not do enough to reduce our national deficit. This bill also provided numerous riders that members of Congress did not have the time to debate.

"With that being said, the 114th Congress has a lot of work to do including repealing Obamacare, ending the President's Amnesty Program, and reigning in government spending."

Note: H.R. 83, the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act of 2015, passed the House by a vote of 219-206, with Rep. Farenthold not supporting its passage.
