Lujan Grisham Votes for Modern Infrastructure, Bigger Paychecks

Press Release

U.S. Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham voted today for a new legislative package offered by House Democrats to invest in modern infrastructure and bigger paychecks for American workers. The Democrats' package is in sharp contrast to the agenda put forth by House Republicans, whose first vote in the new Congress would hand out additional tax cuts for the wealthy.

"Our top priority must be to put Americans back to work, especially in New Mexico where so many families are struggling to make ends meet," Rep. Lujan Grisham said. "The most effective way to jump-start our economy is to invest in modern roads, bridges and water infrastructure, while paying working families more.

"The last thing we need now is more gifts to special interests, or tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans."

The package introduced by Democrats today includes two measures:

Stop Corporate Expatriation and Invest in America's Infrastructure Act

The Act would prevent U.S. corporations from renouncing their citizenship to dodge paying their fair share of taxes and use the additional revenue to build roads and bridges here at home.

CEO/Employee Pay Fairness Act

The Act would ensure that workers share in the fruit of their productivity by denying chief executive Officers the ability to claim tax deductions on income that exceeds $1 million unless they give their employees a well-deserved raise.
