Whitehouse to Attend the Munich Security Conference with John McCain

This weekend, U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Senator John McCain (R-AZ) will lead a bipartisan delegation of Members of Congress at the annual Munich Security Conference (MSC) in Munich, Germany. Whitehouse and McCain have traveled together regularly in recent years, including to last year's Munich Security Conference.

While at the conference, Whitehouse is scheduled to participate in a panel discussion entitled "Are We Losing the War on Terror?" The discussion will explore strategies to combat the rise of the Islamic State (ISIS) and "lone wolf" attacks like those recently carried out in Paris, among other topics. The session will be broadcast live on the MSC website.

"I'm honored to join Senator McCain and other distinguished guests once again for this event," Whitehouse said. "Terrorist groups throughout the world continue to pose serious threats to the U.S. and its allies. I look forward to discussing how we can combat active threats, and how we can address circumstances that have been shown to strengthen and encourage terrorist activities."

In addition to participating in the panel discussion on terrorism, Whitehouse will spend the weekend meeting with top officials U.S. and foreign officials to discuss a range of national security issues in the transatlantic region and beyond.

The conference was founded in 1963 by Ewald von Kleist, a prominent German publisher. Other top U.S. officials attending this year's conference are expected to include Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry.
