CLEAVER ANNOUNCES CO-SPONSORSHIP OF BILLS TO COVER OVER HALF OF AMERICA'S UNINSURED
May 6, 2005

(Washington, DC)-Today, Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II announced his co-sponsorship of three bills in the U.S. House of Representatives that would provide health care coverage to half of America's uninsured. This week is "Cover the Uninsured Week," which raises awareness about the growing number of Americans who live with no insurance.

"Expanding access to quality health care and ensuring that all Americans get the care the need should be one of our top priorities," said Congressman Cleaver. "In Missouri alone, there are 620,000 people with no insurance, and with skyrocketing health care costs, that number is not going to get any small unless we take action."

"We cannot ignore the health care crisis facing our country. We owe it to hard-working Americans and their families to address the obstacles they face at the doctor's office, the hospital or the pharmacy" said Cleaver. "In Congress, I will work with my colleagues to address these issues and make quality health care available to millions of Americans."
