Mikulski, Cardin Announce $70,000 in Federal Funding to Establish Economic Development Framework for Western Maryland

U.S. Senators Barbara A. Mikulski and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) today announced that the city of Frostburg has been awarded a $70,000 federal grant through the U.S. Department of Commerce's (DOC) Economic Development Administration (EDA). The federal funding will be used to support the establishment of an economic development planning framework, process and strategy that supports private capital investment and job creation in the region. EDA is funded under the Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriation Subcommittee, which Senator Mikulski chairs.

"This federal funding is great news for Western Maryland communities because it will support the creation of jobs today and jobs tomorrow," said Senator Mikulski, Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and the CJS Subcommittee that funds the Commerce Department. "This is smart funding to bring together public and private partners to help Western Maryland implement a long-term roadmap for jobs and economic development."

"We have a responsibility to ensure that our economic recovery reaches every corner of Maryland, this means creating a sound foundation for private-public partnerships and development," said Senator Cardin, a member of the Senate Finance Committee. "Frostburg and all of Western Maryland will benefit from this federal investment in long-term jobs and economic growth."
