U.S. Rep. George Holding, a Republican from Raleigh, on Thursday was named co-chairman of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans.

There's only one member of Congress who is Indian-American -- U.S. Rep. Ami Bera, D-Calif. He was named the other co-chair.

The two will take over as chairmen from the current leaders of the caucus, Reps. Peter Roskam, R-Ill., and Joseph Crowley, D-N.Y.

Holding, who is a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said the U.S.-India relationship was one of the most important in the world today.

"I look forward to advancing the efforts of the caucus as co-chair with Rep. Ami Bera," Holding said in a statement. "With a shifting geopolitical situation in Asia, unwavering cooperation between the U.S. and India is essential to promoting peace and stability."
