Issues: Education

U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) today met with members of his Education Advisory Board to announce the introduction of three bipartisan education bills to expand school choice for parents and protect kids. Senator Kirk looks to his advisory board members, consisting of school administrators, officials and parents, to improve education opportunities for Illinois students.

"It's clear from talking to my Education Advisory Board that federal overreach into local school districts is out of control," Senator Kirk said. "Every child should have a safe and challenging educational opportunity in their life. My advisory board has made these goals clear, and I have introduced bills that will create more charter schools, expand year-round school options and keep kids safer from student-on-student harm."

The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) in the coming months will review federal overreach into local school districts as it works to reform and reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, including reviewing federal overreach into local school districts. As a member of the committee, Senator Kirk will work to enhance local and parental control over education and expand educational opportunities for students.
