Reid Statement On January Employment Report

Statement

Date: Feb. 6, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today on the January employment report. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the economy added 257,000 jobs in January:

"Today's jobs report is very encouraging and marks the 59th consecutive month of private sector job growth. Now the challenge before Congress is to make sure that all Nevadans and working Americans share in our growing economy.

"When Americans look at the Republican Congress, they see nothing but gridlock and political grandstanding. Instead of working for middle class Americans, Senate Republicans wasted an entire week repeating failed procedural votes. Instead of working to support working families, Republicans are trying to tear families apart as the price of funding Homeland Security.

"To ensure that economic gains are shared by all instead of just the top one percent, we need to work together. I hope Senate Republicans will change course and put aside their partisan bickering for the good of the middle class. Let's stop wasting time with pointless procedural votes and pass a clean bill to fund Homeland Security so we can take up measures aimed at ensuring that all hard-working Americans share in these economic gains."
